JACKSONVILLE HISTORY CONSORTIUM

Formed in 2003, the Jacksonville History Consortium brings together the many organizations preserving our city’s history. As a unified body, their diverse membership collaborates programmatically, shares information and resources, and provides increased access to historical education and scholarly research - therefore strengthening the foundation of our community and fostering civic pride. ​

THINGS TO DO IN GREEN COVE SPRINGS

Vera Francis Hall Park

Located off of Martin Luther King Jr., Blvd, and sitting on the bank of Black Creek offers a variety of activities that families can take advantage of any day during the week: a softball field, amphitheater, shelters for birthday parties, horseshoe pits, fishing and docking boats, a nature and fitness trail. Open from dawn to dusk.

THOMAS HOGANS GYMNASIUM

Located on Lemon Street, the gymnasium offers activities for most age groups. It's open daily, seven days a week from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Offers basketball, soccer, softball, pickleball and other family-fun activities.

August Savage Arts and Mentoring Center

Located on Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., offers afterschool tutoring programs for children, dance, art, etc. Open daily except on weekends.  

Annual Soul Food and Music Festival at the Vera Francis Hall Park. The festival is held annually on the first Saturday in October since 2002. Our festival offers the finest of black culture in the form of Southern Cooking, music, sweet potato pie and BBQ rib contest, etc. All-day event which begins with a horseshoe tournament at 12:00 noon and a parade at noon. There is entertainment throughout the day with a gospel hour, local and national recording artists, over 50 food and arts and crafts vendors.
